God is crazy about you.

Dearly Beloved,

I am so very happy that you are here doing life. If I were with you right now I would love to give you a BIG hug on behalf of God and let you know how much he loves you. It is no cosmic accident that you or I ended up here on earth created in his image, yet uniquely different.

Your God is absolutely crazy about you just as you are. He is the same God that numbered each strand of hair on your head. The apostle Mathew writes in the gospel of Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So, don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

To think that the same God who created the universe and everything in it pays attention to the death of a single sparrow causes me to take pause. The thought that he takes time to count each one of the hairs on our heads is even more amazing. I’m always amazed when I wake up in the morning and see hair on my pillow that fell out during my sleep to think that the God of the universe focuses on each strand. What incredible attention detail he has for each of us.

By the way, for perspective the average human head contains approximately 100,000 hairs. Do the math. With the current world population at 7,761,992,535 that means God knows the current status of approximately 7,762,000,000,000,000 hairs...

In the book of Psalm chapter 40 verses 1-4 the psalmist writes “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust.”

I am writing you as a father with a gay child who messed up big time when I learned my son was gay. I am also a blessed person because the grace my son extended to me is far beyond anything I deserved. Today I dedicate my life to building bridges between LGBTQ+ individuals, their families and the Church even when they seem at odds.

I hope one day I’ll be able to meet you in person, in the meantime I pray for you.

Love,

Greg McDonald
