Britta
My name is Britta, and I am a queer Christian.
I grew up in an ELCA Lutheran Church, where everyone was welcome. When my parents divorced, I started church hopping with my oldest sister. We visited contemporary churches and found an amazing church.
Pronouns: she/her
The worship was amazing, the community was welcoming, and they accepted people like me (which is unusual for the denomination that they were a part of). After a year of going to this church, there was an incident and I needed a new church home.
I found another church, which people from my old church switched to after the incident, and it was very similar to the first church which I loved! After about 3 months of growing in that space, the pastor went up on stage on a Sunday morning and preached about how being gay was a sin.
I ended up leaving that church and losing my faith completely. I worked so hard to try and gain my faith back but it was so hard. I still struggle with my faith every day, but now I can recognize that God has always loved me and always will.
I am loved, wanted, and valued in God’s eyes.
