Melissa
I AM MELISSA WEISZ and I grew up in the Hasidic Jewish community in Brooklyn. I struggled with finding my place in such a gendered community.
Although I have since left and come out as queer, I adore my family and the community I was raised in. Through my work as an actor, producer, consultant, and host of The Forbidden Apple podcast, I aim to give voice to marginalized people and communities. My goal is to normalize other-ness so we can all honor and respect those who do not look like us, love like us, or pray like us.
Pronouns: she/her
That’s why Pelayo Alvarez and I created The Forbidden Apple podcast to have nuanced conversations and give voice to queer folks reclaiming their spirituality – whatever this means to them. The Forbidden Apple is not just a podcast: it is a community of radical acceptance.
I truly believe that when we give voice to what is unspoken, we lessen the shame many of us live with. When we lessen shame, we feel more connected and can create a kinder and more loving world. Thank you for joining me on this journey to create a more inclusive world.
